Adding new fonts to Photoshop is easy. It is simply a case of adding them to the Fonts directory in Windows, which Photoshop will scan upon start up – any new fonts will then automatically be made available with the Text tool, not just within Photoshop, but many other Windows applications too.
All this means that the only tricky part about installing a new font is selecting the right one for your needs. Fortunately, there is an abundance of resources on the web, and many high quality fonts are available for free, with no registration required. Here’s just a few good font resources to get you started (typing free fonts into Google will return many more matches, but ensure to download from legitimate sources):

- Installing fonts is even easier in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Once the font file is downloaded to your PC, simply Right-Click it and select Install. Windows will then copy it to C:WindowsFonts for you, automatically.
- When selecting fonts, it is always better to stick to the three well established and classic font families:
o Serif – this includes the fonts Times New Roman, Garamond and Georgia. Serif is Latin for “feet”, and every font in this category is characterised in this way.
o Sans-serif – this family of fonts all have missing feet, and includes Trebuchet, Arial and Verdana.
o Monospace – all the fonts within this family, which includes Courier, Courier New and Prestige Elite, have a fixed width.
