Deadpool’s return to the big screen isn’t quite as consistently brilliant as his eye-popping, jaw-dropping, filth-spewing debut.
The element of surprise isn’t there this time (we now know just how far Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox are prepared to let Deadpool go). The plot’s a bit lightweight too, and the script feels like it’s trying slightly too hard in places, lacking that consistent lightness of touch that kept the original film hurtling along.
But that’s all me just being a whingy douche, really. Despite its flaws, Deadpool 2 is still outrageously entertaining, delivering far more gag hits than misses, and upping the carnage to even more hilariously imaginative levels than its predecessor. You’ll laugh. You’ll wince. You’ll laugh-wince. And in the end you’ll come away more convinced than ever that toilet gags, geek in-jokes and exploding heads really can never fail.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle - it’s likely the result of the new 4K transfer exposing issues with the anamorphic lenses some sequences were shot with.The Deadpool 2 4K Blu-ray’s high dynamic range and colour expansion work have more impact than the resolution boost. There’s a much more natural daylight feel to bright exteriors such as the mutant transportation sequence. Black levels seem gently extended downwards, too, without becoming devoid of shadow detail or looking noisy.
Bright peaks in the image, such as Cable’s robotic eye and reflections off the red bodywork of the glorious little scooter Deadpool steals at one point look markedly more intense too, making the picture look, again, more natural. But also more punchy and eye-catching.
The expanded color of the 4K Blu-ray is also effective, making the violence look even more visceral and bringing out much more intensity in director Leitch’s trademark stylized lighting. Deadpool’s red suit pops more too, while simultaneously enjoying more nuanced shading that helps give it a more lived in, worldly feel.
Leitch’s less naturalistic approach to lighting means there aren’t quite as many really high contrast images as you get in the first film. But the higher average brightness levels and more pronounced tonal shifts all make the 4K Blu-ray version worth the extra bucks, even if the resolution isn’t much of a step up.
Sound quality
The highlight of the Deadpool 2 4K Blu-ray in AV terms is its Dolby Atmos mix, which is a stellar effort in every way.

Photo: Deadpool 2, 20th Century FoxSome of the dynamics are immense. For instance, you’ll need to brace yourself - and your house walls - for when [the film’s most oversized character!] bangs his prison cell door in response to a speculative knock from Firefist.
No opportunity for a front to back or side to side audio transition is wasted, and whenever such transitions turn up they’re delivered with adorable and, of course, entirely appropriate aggression. The action is thrown to every corner of the superbly created three-dimensional Dolby Atmos space with exceptional power, clarity and accuracy.
The height channels are used often and well, tying together soundstage transitions where there’s any verticality to play with; throwing in plenty of spot effects (poor old Vanisher drops to the street with ruthlessly portrayed velocity); and also subtly creating a convincing sense of audio scale over and above the potent direct action effects. Listen, for instance to how the shouts of the prisoners echo above you during the prison fight sequence.
Action scenes sound dynamic and clean, and heavy punches and thuds land with real impact. The rear channels sound as extreme in dynamism as the fronts too, while Deadpool’s trademark pop songs are all mixed into the Atmos ‘bubble’ with joyous abandon. Hell, even Enya sounds like the stuff of soundtrack dreams.

Note that the HD Blu-ray only gets a good but much less dynamic and immersive DTS-HD 7.1 mix.
Extra features
The extras on the first Deadpool disc releases were almost as much fun as the film itself, and there’s a fair amount of extra entertainment on offer with the Deadpool 2 extras too.

The headline feature is the longer cut of the film provided on a second 4K Blu-ray, discussed earlier. While this extended version doesn’t have a commentary track, there is one for the 4K Blu-ray of the original theatrical cut.

This track features Ryan Reynolds, director David Leitch, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and is well worth a listen. All four commentators are in the same room together at the same time, leading to plenty of banter and energy. Yet amid the chit chat there’s some genuine insight into the process of making the film.
The rest of the extras are only available on the HD Blu-ray packaged with the 4K Blu-rays. They kick off with a couple of disappointingly skippable deleted scenes, a gag reel that isn’t as funny as the actual film, and a fairly bog-standard featurette on the cast that features too much actual footage from the film and not enough behind the scenes footage).
More fun is the ‘David Leitch Not Lynch’ featurette on the film’s director. This features more behind the scenes footage, based around the filming of the film’s action scenes. Also good is the Deadpool’s Lips Are Sealed section of ‘secrets and easter eggs’, focusing mostly on the difficulties of keeping such a high profile film’s story secret, with a little throwaway section on the references to other movies and X-Men characters that litter Deadpool’s latest outing.
An ‘Alt Takes’ featurette provides a few extra ad libbed filming gags for you to snigger at, while also looking at the, um, creative process behind those gags.

The featurettes wrap up with a solid but lightweight look at the stunt work; a pretty dull exploration of the prison sequence; a short but sweet look at ‘Peter’; a short but suitably stupid ‘game of chess’ with Omega Red; an amusing look at the physical challenges of acting in a film like Deadpool 2; and a mildly droll three-minute monologue from Brolin while he’s in the make-up chair.
Overall the extras are OK, but not as informative or laugh out loud funny as those delivered with the first film.
Verdict
Business law 13th edition pdf. Although Deadpool 2’s 4K picture is only fair to middling by 4K Blu-ray standards, the film’s a lot of fun, and its exclusive Dolby Atmos soundtrack is a riot.
